Carved temples
These temples with outstanding sculptures embellished in stone were built during
the reign of the Chandela dynasty. The temples of Khajuraho are dedicated to
Gods and goddesses like Shiva, Jagadamba and Vishnu. They are separated into
three directional groups: Western, eastern and southern.
The most famous are the group in the west which are also the most typical of
the Khajuraho temples. The main temple is the Kandariya Mahadeo here. The Chaunsat
Yogini is the oldest surviving shrine. The eastern group consists mainly of
Jain and Hindu temples.
Indo - Aryan architecture
These temples from the 10th century form a closed architectural unit with outstanding
sculptural art and architecture. These temples are known to the outside world
only for their erotic sculptures. On the contrary these sculptures reflect mainly
the life of that time in all its moods, and the deep religious faith of these
people.
Sculptures
Each sculptures have such beautiful meanings and are filled with the beauty
of nature and the depth of culture, history and religion. Each one have specific
illustrations, either the sculpture is of some Hindu deities or cult images
of celestial nymphs and animals sculptures. The finest and most common sculptures
at Khajuraho was that of celestial dancers, depicted as youthful beauties, wearing
the choicest gems and garment and full of winsome grace and charm.
Khajuraho Dance Festival
The Khajuraho Festival of Dances draws the best classical dancers in the country
who perform against the spectacular backdrop of the floodlit temples every year
in February/March. In a setting where the earthly and the divine create perfect
harmony - an event that celebrates the pure magic of the rich classical dance
traditions of India. The finest exponents of different classical Indian styles
are represented - Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Manipuri, and many
more.

By Air
Khajuraho Air service is direct link with Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and
Kathmandu.
By Rail
The nearest railheads are Mahoba and Harpalpur. Jhansi is a convenient railhead
for those traveling from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai and Varanasi the railhead
is Satna, on the Mumbai-Allahabad section of the Central Railway is ideal. Delhi,
Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Agra by train to the railheads.
By Road
Khajuraho is connected by regular and direct bus services with Chhatarpur, Mahoba,
Harpalpur, Satna, panna, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra, Sagar, Jabalpur, Indore, Bhopal,
Varanasi and Allahabad.
